Artist Statement

I paint things that interest me and places where I long to be, hoping that my paintings connect with others as they connect with me. My rural landscapes speak of serenity and beauty. Coastal seascapes and urban landscapes engage my sense of excitement and energy. Figurative subjects communicate people's character. My paintings entertain and tell a story, engaging the viewer, rather than simply rendering a particular subject. I paint in watercolor because I love its strength, luminosity, transparency, and spontaneity. Watercolor allows me to place a robust, dark passage adjacent to an area with gently mingling colors, to achieve effects not attainable in any other medium.
